Our Story

Dirk M. Thompson Mortuary, Inc. was founded in 1995 by Dirk Malcolm Thompson, Sr. After serving the Atlanta Metropolitan Area for 15 years, Dirk decided to move back home to Hickory, North Carolina to open his own business. This was a rarity for a young man, but against many odds, he chose the corner lot on 5th Street Court SE and designed the mortuary. His open house was held in June, 1995 and he served his first family in Hickory in April, 1995.

Dirk M. Thompson takes pride in serving the community in which he lives. He spends long hours assisting families in designing a service that reflects the life and legacy of their loved one. Dirk managed a funeral home in Atlanta for 15 years giving him respected experience and talent as a funeral director and embalmer. His combined years of service in the industry is more than 40 years.
