Mr. Stephen Wade-Andre Thomas departed this life unexpectedly, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, North Carolina. Stephen was 40 years, 10 months and 13 days old.
Born on September 10, 1984, in Kingston, Jamaica, Stephen came to the United States in 1993 at the age of 9, alongside his older brother Rene, seeking a better life and brighter opportunities. His journey was shaped by the love and care of the parents who raised him with devotion and strength.
Stephen was full of life and passion. He loved reading, playing video games, and staying active with soccer and dancing. His laughter was contagious – he enjoyed talking, joking, singing and writing music. He sung in a group at church with Rene and his cousins Kim and Latoya, called Mary's Four – named after their grandmother,
Stephen adored his sons, Aureyon and Dreyzdin. His love for them was evident in every word he spoke and every moment he shared with them.
He had a diverse work history. He worked at Prysmian Cables in Claremont, North Carolina. Dixie's Fish and Chicken in Newton, North Carolina was one of his favorite jobs. He also pursued online college courses and launched a clothing line named "Negus del Mora", reflecting his pride in culture and identity. His creativity extended to music, and he published a song entitled "Baboon Clip" on YouTube.
Stephen's faith was a guiding light. He attended Maple Grove Reformed Church of God in Connelly Springs, North Carolina as a child, and later worshipped at Tri City Baptist Church in Conover, North Carolina and Christ Alive Church in Newton, North Carolina.
Stephen never met a stranger. His warmth, humor and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Stephen was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Thomas, Francella Haylett, Lincoln Boyd, and Elmenia Rochester all of Jamaica.
Stephen leaves a loving and devoted family to cherish fond memories; his parents Kenneth (Annette) Thomas of Newton, North Carolina, and Suzet Boyd of Jamaica, his sons, Aureyon and Dreyzdin Thomas both of Conover, North Carolina; brothers, Sean Johnson (Kellie Kurtz) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Kenneth George Thomas of Jamaica, Rene Thomas of Greensville, North Carolina, Rory Thomas (Gabriella) of New York and Asha Thomas of Newton, North Carolina; sisters, Kecia Johnson of Jamaica Kaiya Thomas of Newton, North Carolina, and Brittney Johnson, of Jamaica; grandparents, Preston and Mary Ramseur of Vale, North Carolina; his nephews, Benjamin and Gabriel Johnson of Greensboro, North Carolina; nieces, Aaliyah and Thalia Thomas of New York and Jasmine Johnson of Greensboro, North Carolina; the mother of his beautiful children, Jessica Linebarger of Conover, North Carolina and his significant other Shameka Horne of Hickory, North Carolina; along with a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins and cherished friends.
