Mr. Robert Dan Freeman was born April 6, 1936 to the late Mildred "Pip" Thompson in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. On November 7, 2022, Robert took his rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior at Big Elm Nursing and Retirement Center, Kannapolis, North Carolina.
Robert was educated at Logan High School. Robert hitchhiked from Concord to Brooklyn, New York and returned back to Concord in the early 2000's following his retirement. He had a loved for people and never met a stranger. Robert was always expanding his mind by learning new things. He would send books on Black Awareness back home to family members. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Concord, North Carolina.
Bobby Dan, as he was affectionately called, was the eldest descendant of Clyde and Jennie Cress Thompson. He loved working outside in the yard and took pride in his tools. He retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs at the New York Harbor Healthcare Center as a Culinary Specialist after 19 years of service. Bobby Dan received awards for his accomplishments from the Veterans Affairs as well as from the Concord Housing Department. He participated in the Lunch Plus program for Seniors at Logan Gym. He was an avid walker until his health declined. Robert loved to travel and had a strong friend group in New York.
In addition to his mother, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Freeman and a nephew, Michael Freeman.
Left to cherish loving fond memories are his niece in-law, Frances Freeman, and great niece Shana Freeman both of Mooresville, North Carolina along with a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
No Tears in Heaven
There are no tears in Heaven, nor grief of any kind.
I leave this final tear drop to those I've left behind. Though absent from the body, I'm present with the Lord. The joy of my salvation is now my full reward!
