Mr. Richard Lewis King transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly on June 11, 2023. Born April 15, 1962 to Mr. Garfield King and the late Betty Jean Shuford King, Richard was the fourth child of eight siblings.
Richard was a member of Mount Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a hard worker and had worked for Snyder Paper Corporation for more than 25 years.
Richard was a proud graduate of the Hickory High School Class of 1980. He loved his classmates and enjoyed time spent with them at class events and doing community activities. Richard ran track and continues to hold Hickory High School's track record for the 4 X 100 Relay at 41.8 seconds and the 4 X 200 Relay at 1 minute, 27.87 seconds. He was on the 1979 undefeated regular season football team that went 10 and 0! He was affectionately called "Cuz" by all whom he loved and was close to.
In addition to his mother, Betty Jean Shuford King, Richard was preceded in death by a granddaughter, A'Miracle Boyd, a brother, Ronald King and a nephew Jovian King.
Richard leaves to mourn special memories his daughter Sierra King (Robert Mooneyham), of Hickory, North Carolina; grandson, Sabion Boyd of Hickory, North Carolina; father, Garfield King of Westminister, South Carolina; brothers, Jerry King, Donald Ray King and Damon (Mary) King all of Hickory, North Carolina; sisters, Sharon Corpening, Linda King and Karen King all of Hickory, North Carolina and Gina King of Charlotte, North Carolina; nephews, Pedie, Chavis, Donovan, Dontro, Davario and Shannon; nieces Shamekia, Nikki, Senequa, Shayla, Vivian and special niece Shardae; special friends, Alvis Crutchfield, Chris Morrison, Gregory Johnson, Sammie Lewis, Shannon Brooks Jones and Norma Flowers; along with a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Richard truly loved his family and friends and will be sorely missed.
