Mrs. Mary Maudester Simms, daughter of the late William Mills and Maudester Prigmore Mills, was born July 8, 1944 in Radford County, Virginia.  She departed her earthly life to live eternally with the Lord Jesus Christ on September 26, 2023 at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, North Carolina following a lingering illness.  She was 79 years, 2 months and 18 days old.

Mrs. Simms was lastly employed by Gateway Hotel in Hickory, North Carolina, but also worked many years for Radford Arsenal in Fairlawn, Virginia before moving to Hickory.  In 1962 she graduated from the Christiansburg Institute, Christiansburg, Virginia. She was a devout Christian and a member of Maiden Chapel Baptist Church.  She loved spending time with her family, who affectionately called her "Doll".

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simms was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mitchell Anthony and a special friend, Dorothy Foote.

Left to cherish fond loving memories are her daughters, Angela Anthony (Jerry Boyce) of Conover, North Carolina, Isaline (Kofi) Washington of Crestone, Colorado and Veronica (Rick) Holt of Hickory, North Carolina; grandchildren, Zach and Tsion Hermes, Roneisha Hackett, Riddim and Haven Hackett, Ayla  and Sequoia Sirois and Brianna Carson; great grandchildren, Modest, Greylan, Mofi, Rahyah, and Journey; special friend Ola Beatty of Newton, North Carolina; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
