Obituary
Iris Ranae Robinson-Hunter was born on June 13, 1969, in Catawba County, North Carolina to Milton Al Hunter and Mattie Sue Robinson. She went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2021.
Iris was the middle of three sisters to Mattie Sue ad the only daughter and the eldest child of Al Hunter. She grew up in Hickory, North Carolina and moved to Texas to provide a better life for her children. Iris cherished education. She graduated from Hickory High School in 1988, where she was a cheerleader. Iris received her Associate degree in Business Administration while in Texas. While working as a phlebotomist, Iris began a career as an admissions counselor for those seeking higher education. She was a long-time employee of ITT Technology. While there, she received numerous awards for helping hundreds of men and women change their lives. Also, during this time, she learned Spanish to continue helping those who needed access to higher education. After being diagnosed with cancer and liver disease, she returned home to North Carolina for the last two years of her life, fighting back to health before her untimely passing.
Iris's children were the love of her life. She struggled as a young mother but made it through with the help of family and friends. She was determined for her children to live a better life than she had. She pushed them in school and pushed them to make the most of every opportunity. She instilled in them a hard work ethic and the drive to succeed. They were all honor roll students. Kevin joined the military and is an accomplished and decorated Technical Sargent in the US Air Force. Marcus lives and works in Texas. Astinee is pursuing a career in Cheer Coaching, leading a team to the National Championship.
Iris was a lively and vibrant soul, making numerous friends wherever she went. Iris also made friends in Texas that became family to her. To everyone who knew her, Iris was always smiling and the life of the party. She never met a stranger. She loved all her family and loved hearing the many nieces, nephews and cousins who affectionately called her Aunt Tweet.
Iris is preceded in death by her grandmothers Susie Thompson and Florence Hunter.
