Obituary

God's Faithful Servant

Henry Lee Suggs, son of the late James William Suggs and the late Elleather Johnson
Suggs, was born April 24, 1940 in Greene County, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life to enter eternal rest on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center
in Goldsboro, North Carolina.


Henry spent his formative years in both Greene and Wayne Counties. He graduated
from Pikeville Training School in Pikeville, North Carolina and attended North Carolina
Central University in Durham, North Carolina.
After completing his education, Henry eventually relocated to New Jersey. Later he
moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia and then to Wilson, North Carolina. It was in Wilson,
North Carolina where he worked for Lee Motor Ford Company. Always desiring to
become an entrepreneur, Henry became the owner and operator of Lillington Ford in
Lillington, North Carolina. Prior to his retirement, he was the general manager of
Bostrom Ford in Wake Forest, North Carolina.


Henry was a fun-loving and a hard-working man. He loved fellowshipping with
family and friends. Henry never met a stranger, and he was always willing to lend a helping
hand to anyone he met. In his pastime, he enjoyed watching sports, especially the Carolina Panthers. In fact, he was a season ticket holder with the Panthers from 1995-2019.
In addition to watching sports, Henry was an avid watcher of the news, especially MSNBC,
and in latter years, he enjoyed challenging himself to learn technology and developing
photographs.
Most of all, Henry loved the Lord. He became a student of God at an early age. In is adult life, Henry spent numerous hours each day reading and studying his Bible. He committed himself to reading the Bible in its entirety and accomplished that goal. Henry shared his loved for God with his family, church family, and community. His labor of love and church missions include: Program Chairman for the Men's Night Out Fellowship for the Cape Fear Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church, initiating and spearheading the food bank program at Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church in Stantonsburg, North Carolina, and
working alongside his wife, Monica, on the Wilson District Vacation Bible School Committee with the Christian Education Department.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by: his siblings, Verlene
Suggs Beasley and Erma Suggs-Smith; several aunts and uncles; a special god mother, Mary Susan "Ma Sue" Woodard; and a special cousin, who was like a sister, Mary Etta "Mae" Woodard.
Left to cherish precious and wonderful memories of Henry are: his loving and
devoted wife and caregiver, Monica Thompson-Suggs; his three daughters, Valerie Morgan, Vanessa Suggs-Wallace, and Vickie Suggs-Jones; his one and only granddaughter, whom he adored, Max Grace Brown; his nephew, Warren Best; four brothers-in-law, Allen Thompson, Gregory Thompson, Dirk Thompson and Steve Roseman; four sisters-in-law,
Deborah Jessie, Regina Sudderth, Carolyn Thompson, and Sharon Roseman; and a host of nieces and nephews, including a special niece and nurse, Ariel Thompson and a special nephew, Malcolm Thompson; several cousins, including special cousins Earldine "Pete" Marshall, Deborah Ann Uzzell, Shirley Honey, Gaynell Uzzell, Eugene Yelverton, Richard and Linda Suggs, and Jonnetta Woodard, whom he loved as a special niece; other relatives who and friends, including special friends, Drew Brown, Willie Barnes and Joyce Paige.


Funeral services to Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mr. Henry Lee Suggs will be held  Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at
Salisbury A.M.E. Zion Church
2029 Lipscomb Road
Wilson, NC 27893.
Family Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.to 1:55 p.m. at the church.

Interment

Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.  at Southside Cemetery 315 14th Avenue Drive SW, Hickory, North Carolina
