Reverend Mrs. Carrie Lucinda Ramsey, an ordained minister and a faithful servant of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on
Saturday morning, October 2, 2021 at Conover Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Conover, North Carolina. God blessed her with 90
years of life.
She was born April 15, 1931 in Mooresville, N.C. to the late Dewitt T. Ramsey
and Mildred Danner Ramsey. Two of her most memorable events in her life
were her commitment to Christ in her late teens, and her marriage at age 20 to
Willie L. King, Sr., as they were married for 65 years. Mrs. King worked hard
in her life's journey, In her youth she was educated in the segregated Catawba
County Schools. As an adult, she earned her GED in a community program
through Catawba Valley Technical Institute, now CVCC.
In addition to retiring from Modern Cleaners in Newton, NC for 35 years,
she served God as a leader to her faith. She was an ordained minister in the
Fire Baptized Holiness Church. She was a deaconess, trustee, and chaired
numerous committees at New Jerusalem Holiness Church where she
was a dedicated and faithful member for over 70 years. Mrs. King was a
community activist, serving in the beautification, education, and supporter of
the neighborhood, including the Majestic Men's and Booster Clube, the S.W.
Community Watch, and the G.E. Retirees Club.
Mrs. Carrie, as she was fondly called, was known to offer spiritual guidance, encouragement, financial help and genuine love
throughout her life.
Carrie King was admired by everyone with her resilience as she continued to support her family, friends, neighbors, and church after
she lost her eyesight in 2011 and was no longer driving. She was a Bible scholar and often told where passages of scriptures could be
found in the Bible. She quoted and lived her scriptures.
Through the years, she enjoyed many travels with her husband and family. Family gatherings richly blessed her life until she became
severely ill on April 23, 2021. Old TV shows such as Andy Griffith, In the Heat of the Night, Amen, the Price Is Right, and Let's Make
A Deal, gospel singings, and talking on the telephone to family and friends made her days delightful. On her 90th birthday on April
15, 2021, she was jubilant to receive nearly 100 telephone calls to celebrate her day. She stated, "I never had a birthday like this."
Her favorite sports teams were the Atlanta Braves and the
Carolina Panthers. However, because she was devoted to her
family, she would often become a true LA Dodgers and Dallas
Cowboys fan. There was a loving rivalry between Mr. King's
Dodgers and her Braves.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
devoted and loving husband, Mr. Willie L. King, Sr.; her
dear son, Billy Dewitt Ramsey; her dear daughter, Shirley
King Russell, and her husband Marvin C. Russell; her loving
grandson, Barron Bernard Ramsey; her dear sister, Ola Marie
Yount; and her dear brother, Clarence Freeman Ramsey.
A spiritual role model, a virtuous woman, a good friend and neighbor and a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
great-great grandmother, Mother King will be sorely missed and leaves many cherished memories to: a dutiful son and daughter,
Willie L. King, Jr. (Sonya) of Conover, NC and Ceglenda King Perry (Ronald) of Charlotte, NC; two granddaughters, Shannon
Dula Alexander (John) of Charlotte, NC and J'Sonya Watkins of Raleigh, NC; one grandson, Derrick Wayne Ramsey (Phyllis)
of Shelby, NC; four great-great grandchildren, Janelle Alexander of Charlotte, NC, John-Michael Alexander of Fort Hood, Texas,
Darius Ramsey of Houston, Texas, and Breonia Ramsey of Greensboro, NC; three great-great grandchildren, Akeem Alexander
Smith and Carson-Michael Alexander both of Charlotte, NC, and Ashlynn Lutz of Conover, NC; a beloved sister, Dorothy Brice of
Conover, NC; a sister-in-law, Christine King of Hickory, NC; a brother-in-law, Garfield King (Sylvia) of Westminister, SC; childhood
friend Betty Kale McClendon of Philadelphia, PA; a host of nieces, nephews, other treasured relatives, friends and neighbors.
