Mrs. Betty T. Anthony was born March 19. 1947, to the late Madison Dalton Turner and Roberta Smith Turner in Catawba County, North Carolina. She departed this life Monday, January 22, 2024, at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, after a brief illness.
Betty was a graduate of Ridgeview High School, Class of 1965. At Ridgeview, she was a majorette in the marching band, and participated in various clubs. She received additional education at Durham Business School in Durham, North Carolina. Her career began as an administrative assistant at Catawba Valley Community College. She later found a home at General Electric Company, where she worked until her retirement in the mid-eighties. After her retirement, she worked as a paralegal at Isenhour, Long, Gaither and 'Wood Law Firm.
Betty married Glenn Anthony in 1967. They worked side by side, raised two children, and became very productive members of the community in the ensuing years.
Betty prided herself in community involvement. In 1988, she filed as a candidate for the Catawba County Board of Commissioners. She was an active member of the of Hickory Branch of the NAACP, the Catawba County Literacy Council and the North Carolina Human Relations Council. She was founder and director of the APW Boys Club of Hickory. She was the recipient of the Delta Sigma Theta and Hickory Community Relations Council Community Service Award in 1987. She also received the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's Citizen of the Year Award in 1987.She served as a poll worker during many election cycles, which she enjoyed. She was invited to be a guest speaker at an NAACP event. She worked on the Ridgeview Reunion Committee for many years, where she was an avid fundraiser.
Betty was a lifetime member of Hartzell Memorial United Methodist Church, where she took on many roles; church secretary, Sunday school teacher, and Associate worker with the youth and United Methodist Women. She created and designed annual booklets for various events at Hartzell and St. Paul Church. She assisted in the kitchen preparing meals for various fundraisers at Hartzell.
Betty enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking, knitting, solving puzzles, and computer games.
Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, the late Glenn Anthony, sister, Rose A. Propst, brother, Jimmy R. Turner, all of Hickory, North Carolina.
She leaves to celebrate her memories, two children; Mark Anthony of Hickory, North Carolina, and Michelle Anthony of Raleigh, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Tim Richter, of Augsburg, Germany, Lee Lee Long Anthony and Jade Latek both of Asheville, North Carolina, Symphony Anthony of Hickory, North Carolina, Brandon and Paris Crespo, MiLyah Anthony each of Raleigh, North Carolina; four great grandchildren, Mia Richter of Augsburg, Germany, Zionna of Asheville, North Carolina, Layla and Dior
Crespo both of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister, Beatrice Turner of Virginia Beach, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and special friends; Jeanette Jamison, Robert Roberts, Jessica Terry, Quincy Streeter, Robbie and Kenneth Roberts, Mary Hazel Abernethy,
Bettye Greene, Rodney and Martha Pegues of Hickory, North Carolina,
James and Alice Kimball of Newton, North Carolina, Sonya Long of Asheville, North Carolina and Susan Sharpe of Statesville, North Carolina.
