Obituary

Mr. Algie Napoleon Smith was born on January 7, 1935 in Lincolnton, Lincoln County, North Carolina to the late Joe and Annie Foster Smith. He peacefully departed this life at The Willow Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in Rutherfordton, North Carolina following a lingering illness. He was 87 years, 8 months and 15 days old.


Algie was an active member of Tuckers Grove United Methodist Church until his health failed. He attended Tuckers Grove School, Punkins Center Middle School and Newbold High School and was a bus driver at that time. He left home at an early age to join the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Smith attended Gaston College and received his GED. He worked at Sodyeco Inc. which became Sandoz Chemical and then
Clariant in Mount Holly, North Carolina as a truck driver. After he retired, he went to work in the Lincoln County school system.

Algie was a member of the Masonic Rockhill Lodge #329.


Mr. Smith loved fishing, working on cars with his brother and spending time with his children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Loretta Lyles Smith; son, Dennis Herbert Smith; granddaughter, Beverly Propst; a brother, William Blair Smith; a sister, Joann Friday; a niece, Tracy Pyant; a nephew, Julian Smith; two brothers in-law and a son in-law.


Algie will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters; Denise Propst (Scott) of Newton, North Carolina, Danielle Hodges of Marion, North Carolina and Donna Hollins of Maiden, North Carolina; one son Donald B. Smith Sr. of Iron Station, North Carolina; twelve
grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; three brothers, Joe Louis Smith, Reverend Leroy Smith (Rebecca) and James C. Smith
all of Iron Station, North Carolina; three sisters, Kathryn Smith and Crystal Rozzelle both of Iron Station, North Carolina and
Princess Owens of Anderson, South Carolina; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
